The Initiative

As a Biology and Science teacher, Prabhat has taken a fresh and inclusive approach that aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recommendations.

He has introduced scientific terms through the various languages that his students speak. This approach is not just aimed at making Science less confusing but also promotes linguistic diversity.

To this end, Prabhat has conducted various practical experiments and multilingual approach scenarios.

He advocates for integrating multilingualism into science classrooms, emphasising its role in enhancing students' understanding of global scientific concepts. By exploring linguistic variations in terminology, such as the different names for cyclones, Prabhat highlights how this diversity not only expands cultural awareness but also underscores the universal nature of scientific principles.

The approach also extends to dual nomenclature for organisms like the water hyacinth, delving into the etymology of scientific terms to provide a richer context for learning. In biology, he suggests incorporating indigenous medicine, citing the example of punarnava, to promote cultural diversity in medicinal knowledge. As a science facilitator, he observes that using both English and colloquial terms aids student comprehension, acknowledging the national and international contexts for multilingual education in science.

He also believes that Science is a multidisciplinary subject; therefore, he designs lessons that contain elements of Mathematics, Geography, and other disciplines from humanities. This approach improves the learning experience and highlights the interconnectedness of knowledge, which is one of the core recommendations of NEP 2020.

Furthermore, Prabhat caters to individual learning styles by employing a blend of behaviorism and constructivism. He uses reinforcement techniques to encourage positive behaviours and integrates constructivist principles through hands-on activities and collaborative projects. In this way, he endeavours to align with NEP 2020's recommendation by catering to the diverse learning needs of his students.

He also recognises individual differences and adopts inclusive teaching practices. Prabhat utilises varied instructional methods like multimedia presentations, group discussions, and collaborative projects to cater to different learning preferences, ensuring every student thrives in his immersive classroom.

Prabhat also recognizes the importance of collaboration. He, therefore, structures activities, discussions, and projects that promote peer learning, enhance social skills, and foster a sense of shared knowledge and collective growth, aligning with NEP 2020's emphasis on collaborative learning.

Prabhat Kumar is a finalist for Best Incorporation of an NEP 2020 Recommendation because of his initiatives that are a testament to his dedication towards creating an engaging and inclusive science learning environment.
