This is probably one of the most powerful lines that define the importance of children and the role they play in building the future of a country. However, during the last two years of the pandemic, they have been one of the most neglected groups. Thanks to Lockdowns, School Closures, and Other Precautionary Measures, Children have failed to get quality education and have incurred irreversible learning loss. But as they say, challenges also offer a new opportunity and hope to shine and that is exactly what Riyad Maroof Hassan – a 13-year student from Shiksha Valley School, Dibrugarh – Assam has done.

Riyad founded Clippers Media House – a digital-first initiative that helps young students like him to connect and network globally to empower children for self-development and empowerment. The initiative works towards Creative and Educational Growth among Children through Audio and Video-based Learning.

Video-based Learning

Riyad’s Clippers Media House started as a video platform, where he produced videos that are aimed at helping students develop their creativity and promote educational growth among children. As part of the Clippers Media House, Riyad has produced a series of Shows on YouTube covering ‘Video Box’ an Interview series where he interacts with other children who are involved in different initiatives and are working towards the betterment of society. The interview series also featured some prominent personalities including Nandini Nayar, Preeti Vyas, Rachel Hedman, Usha Venkatraman, Smita Bhattacharya, filmmaker Debjani Mukherjee, and Jeeva Raghunath.

In addition to this, he has also produced Trouvaille – the world's first-ever Historical Web Show to be developed by children. The show presents important landmarks of Indian History in a creative and interesting manner that is both educational and entertaining at the same time.

The Clippers Child Council of India

To bring like-minded Children together and build a network, Riyad founded The Clippers Child Council of India. The Council is one of a kind, by the children for the children run council that has brought 22 bright young minds who collaborate on different topics and events. The council has been involved in the organization of several educational events across India that are aimed at helping highlight the importance of creativity among children. The Clippers Child Council of India has been successfully spreading the message of creativity among students through competitions, conferences, and events.

Podcast @ A Sketch Of The Sky

Inspired by the success of his Video Box Series, Riyad also launched a Podcast called A Sketch Of The Sky. The podcast was produced in a talk-show format and featured conversations with Karadi Tales, one of the best independent children's publishing houses. This was followed by interviews with the winning eminent author of India, Nandini Nayar. Then Preeti Vyas, Usha Venkatraman, Hema Subramanian, Rachel Hedman, Wizard Within, and Smita Bhattacharya.

Apart from India, Riyad’s podcast ‘A Sketch Of The Sky’ has had Listenership from across the globe including from countries such as the United States, Sweden, Canada, Nepal, and Ireland, from different age groups.

Literature On Screen

Riyad founded Literature on Screen – a social media organization that spreads awareness about Indian English Literature virtually throughout the globe. The organization publishes various types and kinds of literary forms and promotes them among its readers. The group tries to research and promote Indian Writing in English/Indian English Literature among the youth and aspiring writers.

Other Achievements

Riyad’s efforts have been appreciated by several organizations. At a young age, he has been conferred the honour of being the Youngest Writer of Assam and was awarded as Social Influencer in the Top 20 Under 20 Influencer Awards 2021. He has also been appointed by MIT Square, London as Young Program Lead of its Child Development Initiatives department. Recently, he was also selected as the Global Child Rights Ambassador for JAP Global.

Riyad Maroof Hassan is the finalist for Student Ambassador (Popular Choice) Because…at the young age of 13, Riyad has been promoting the noble cause of child empowerment and development of creative pursuits among children. With his efforts, Riyad has helped ignite young minds while also being an inspiration for others.
